Paul Conroy is a veteran photojournalist who has focused his efforts in the Middle East and was partners with the legendary Marie Colvin. He is an ex-Royal Artillery soldier then photographer.
I recently just saw the movie “A Private War” documenting Colvin and also Conroy’s relationship with her as a foreign correspondent team.
His images portray the immediate danger that is terrorism and war. I see the black and white photos of James Nachtwey and think of art and human suffering.. Conway’s show suffering but are shot as if we were standing there ourselves. Maybe it is because it’s shot in color, but it has a less edited more real look.
