Joey L.’s work is really great because it mixes a style of photojournalism with studio. All of his subjects are mainly lit by a strobe. Some of my favorite projects of his include the firefighters in NYC, the farmers who live on coffee bean farms and so much more. Joey is pretty young and lives in NYC where he has a studio, but travels a lot because most of his work is environmental.
Another thing I really like about Joey is that he is very transparent and wants to help others grow as photographers. He has a blog where he writes about recent shoots he was commissioned for, along with a spot for videos and Q&As with Joey himself.
His colors are fantastic and the quality of the image is beautiful. Typically I don’t really like images that look like they have a clarify filter on, but his feel very clean and straight forward.
