XI. Çağdaş Erdoğan

Erdogan was born in Eastern Turkey in 1992 and focuses mainly on minorities in his region. I first saw his work in an independent photography magazine, Aint Bad, where they featured a few of his photos. His work partially scares me and that’s why I like it.

Photo of Erdogan.

Erdogan has been detained by the Turkish government since September 2nd of last year for photographing a government building. He went on trial in February for siding with Turkish “terrorists”, as he was embedded as a photojournalist with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). In reality he had sided with no one, but was seen to be since he was embedded with their group.

His work is dark and gritty but draws me in because of the dinginess each photo has and what might lie beyond the photo.
